Seven years ago I made a major career shift and started a blog with vague ideas of what I wanted to do as a career, and no idea of how I was going to get there. About to complete my Masters a careers advisor told me they could not help me. I was on my own. So I made a list of all things I wanted to try out, adding to it over the years; some worked, some failed and some that I ended up working on were not even on my list, to begin with. One of the things I added to my list early on was to curate an exhibition of some sort. And now a few years later I have co-curated not one but two exhibitions. Opportunities that came from people contacting me, not the other way around. And for me, this is what happens when you choose to dream big.
Getting to this point has been hard, it has been painful, and for a large part of the time, it felt like I was wading through mud. I have felt like giving up, more so now than ever as I battle a weariness from fighting the daily challenges that come with my choices. But the breakthroughs are coming giving me the strength I need to keep pressing on. Keeping the faith that I will come out through the other side. I have learned to bide my time, to trust in the process, to do what I can and leave the rest in His hands.
Looking ahead I don’t know what the future holds, but for now curating for a subject I am passionate about is one of my biggest achievements, and I celebrate.
The takeaway…don’t be afraid to dream big, open your mind and put your ideas out there, and then be patient because you never know how they will manifest in your life.
