It is a scientific fact that repetition helps to reinforce things in our minds and in turn influencing our habits and actions. So imagine what you could achieve by regularly writing down your goals and having them to hand as you go about your working and personal days. By constantly having to write out your goals and having them in front of you every day you will start to affirm your goals, you will start to believe them because they will become embedded into your subconsciousness.
I designed the goal achiever planner kit to help me do just that having made a commitment to myself to become more productive in my daily work schedule. I was tired of seeing the same story repeat itself year after year, a story of not being able to focus and achieve my dreams because I did not have a clear plan on what I needed to do. There is a saying ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’. Knowing what you are working towards helps keep you focused on what you need to do in the present
I did not want to do that anymore, and experimented with different ways to create a planner that worked to hold me accountable to having more productive days, ones that actively moved me towards achieving my goals. And to successfully achieve your goals you need to break them down into more manageable tasks, for example going from a start up with no business name to an international household name in one leap is virtually impossible. It takes time and commitment to build up to that end goal. So I chose to create my own planner to suit my specific needs and requirements.
It took a while for me to create a planner that works, a process that involved documenting my days over a month and highlighting where and how I spent my time and looking for task patterns, for example I found that Wednesday’s are my preferred day for doing marketing related task. Once I had an idea if how I like to work I then create a month to view calendar template and started to fill it, revising until I had created a schedule that I was happy with and more importantly one I felt I could realistically stick to. I then used this information as a guide to filling out tasks on my weekly and then daily planners.
And once I had a daily planner template I could work with, another thing I found was that I prefer to have a printed planner over a digital one. As I focus so much better on what I need to do.
You may not have the time or resources to design your own planner, that’s ok, there are many templates to choose from. Etsy and Creative Market are two marketplaces that come to mind. But in your search remember that not all planners are equal. Decide what you need on your planner. And with a schedule everything has its place. It may seem like a chore at first, constantly filling out worksheets, but speaking from experience I need those sheets to keep me on track, I procrastinate less, and get more done in a shorter amount of time, meaning I achieve some goals ahead of schedule.
It is not enough to say you want to be more productive, you have to take the steps to make it happen and a planner can help you do that. Each sheet starts with some space to insert your overall goal. The overall goal is your main goal, the one thing that you are working towards.
And to help you achieve your ultimate goal you need to break it down into smaller goals along the lines of a: Long-term goal, Mid-term goal, Short-term goal so there is space for you to do this too.
